形态与组分 二十面体，直径约25～30纳米。粒子沉降系数115～117S。核酸为1条单链RNA，正链，分子量约2000000。结构亚基分子量约24000。

生物学特性 寄主有单子叶和双子叶植物。侵染韧皮部细胞。不能机械接种。介体蚜虫，持续性传播，但病毒在介体内不复制与增殖。致死温度65～70℃，对氯仿稳定。病毒得率小于100微克／升病汁液。有很强的免疫原性，群内大多数病毒间有血清学关系。

名称来源“luteo”来自拉丁语“luteus”，表示黄色。因寄主感病后出现黄色症状。该名称于1975年9月被ICTV正式批准命名。
